Emerson et Cie

Contemporary Furniture Of Distinction Emerson et Cie had its beginning eighteen years ago when Marvin Smith traveled to Italy to fill a product void at their wholesale designer showroom in San Francisco’s "Galleria Design Center." His natural ability to create an item that would be appealing to the furniture minded buyer started with a few cocktail tables and various dining chairs. The company was soon on the road to filling the "niche" of discerning buyers.

The company’s name has its origin in the French tradition of adding "et Cie" after a proprietor’s Christian name to indicate a family business. Since "Emerson" has been one of the given names of every male in the Smith family for the past six generations "Emerson et Cie" became the obvious choice. Marv Smith, President and CEO Marvin Emerson Smith serves as President and Chief Executive Officer and Connie Smith, his wife, oversees the financial operations as Secretary/Treasurer. With extensive European travel, both Marvin and Connie spend considerable time in product development fabric selections, and fashion. Their son, Mark Emerson Smith, is their Northern California Sales Representative.

Emerson et Cie focuses in five categories of home furnishings:

Classic Seating and Dining (upscale chairs and tables that feature gold leaf as well as natural and hand painted finishes which are being done in High Point)

Classic Traditions (a fine selection of unique accent and occasional furniture)

Classic Reflections (a collection of elegant mirrors and consoles)

Élan Upholstery (a complete fully upholstered product made at the Emerson factory in North Carolina)

Accessories (a variety of exquisite table top items and wall décor)

At present, these products are produced in seven countries. Always seeking new sources, Mr. Smith is currently researching manufacturers in other countries and continues to build relationships with domestic companies as well. Currently one third of all products are produced in High Point, North Carolina. Emerson et Cie has 20 sales representatives that cover all 50 states and Canada. Its customer base includes designer showrooms, stocking interior designers, interior design studios and furniture stores to which Emerson et Cie makes available over 550 items today. Responding to consumer product demand, proactive customer relation policy, and integrity with both employees and sales personnel has been the reason for a decade of steady growth for Emerson et Cie.
